Thank you. The Quiet De Luxe is a recent find at an estate sale, and I have taken a liking to it.
I was running into several problems with using my name. First, it is more common than it may seem. There is the British actor, Michael Kitchen (star of Foyle’s War); there’s the former NHL player, now assistant coach of the Chicago Blackhawks Michael Kitchen; then, there’s a retired Chief of Police of Ferndale, Michigan named Michael Kitchen. An inmate of the Michigan Department of Corrections reached out to me, asking if I handled appeals, thinking it would be cool if Michael Kitchen represented Michael Kitchen. And recently, at a writer’s conference, myself and another Michael Kitchen were pitching agents, which caused a little confusion.
Also, I discovered that finding my novel on places like Amazon proved challenging. Searching under my name, you’d get audiobooks read by the British actor Michael Kitchen, or books where “Kitchen” was in the title and the author had a “Michael” or “Michaels” in it.
Do Haeng is the Buddhist name given to me when I took the precepts at Still Point Zen Buddhist Temple in Detroit, in May, 2008. Still Point practices in the Korean tradition, and the name means, “Way of Action.” I could have opted for DoHaeng Michael Kitchen, I suppose, but that seems too long.
Typewriters only let you move forward. always create new when given the choice. (:
Indeed. Though I have found myself to occasionally backspace, then X out what was typed, moving forward from there. 🙂
Michael Kitchen sounds more like a pen name than dohaeng. 🙂 Is there a Korean connection? Lovely typewriter BTW.

Interesting, thank you. 🙂
